Conflict between Palestine and Israel
Since May 3, a new round of armed conflict broke out between Palestine and Israel in the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in more than 20 deaths and more than 200 injuries.
According to Reuters quoted Palestinian officials on the 6th, the two sides reached a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip conflict with Egypt's mediation on the same day. The official said the cease-fire agreement would take effect from 4:30 a.m. local time (9:30 Beijing time), which has been confirmed by another Palestinian official and an official Hamas television station. But reports indicate that Israeli officials haven’t made any statement on whether to cease fire.
On March 3, the Israeli military said two Israeli soldiers were shot and wounded by Palestinian Islamic Jihad fighters during a protest by Palestinians. Subsequently, Israeli forces bombed the Gaza Strip, killing two Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) personnel. Although Israel believed that the 3-day attack was not co-sponsored with Hamas, it held Hamas responsible for all anti-Israeli violence in Gaza. Therefore, Hamas and Gerhard fired hundreds of rockets into Israel, escalating a new round of conflict between the two sides.
On the evening of May 5, the Gaza Strip Health Department revealed on the evening of May 5 that 19 Palestinians were killed and more than 150 injured by Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip that day. Two pregnant women and a 14-month-old child were among the dead, the Guardian reported on Wednesday.
On the same day, the Israeli military said that since 4 days ago, Palestinian armed groups have fired about 650 rockets into Israel from the Gaza Strip, killing four Israelis and injuring more than 70 others. Israeli forces bombed more than 300 targets in the Gaza Strip, killing 23 Palestinians.
On May 4 Turkish officials said that an Israeli air strike hit a commercial and residential building in the Gaza Office of their official media, Anadolu News Agency. Turkish President Erdogan strongly condemned the actions of the parties, calling them "terrorism". However, according to the Israeli military, the targets of the attack included a tunnel dug by Jehad in southern Gaza leading to the Israeli-controlled area, as well as the office building of the Hamas military intelligence and security agency in the Gaza Strip.
After the escalation of the conflict, President Abbas of the State of Palestine appealed to the Palestinian armed groups in the Gaza Strip to end their military confrontation with Israel as soon as possible, and appealed to the international community to help the two sides to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible, according to Xinhua News Agency. United Nations Secretary-General Guterres and United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Mladenov, both called on the two sides to exercise restraint, downgrade the conflict and abide by the previous ceasefire agreement reached between the two sides under the mediation of Egypt and the United Nations.
